The opening of the Fintech Cluster
We opened the Fintech Cluster this week. I'm a founder and CEO of the Fintech Cluster, a society and a center for entrepreneurship in fintech in Iceland. We have over 60 members, among them fintechs, banks, universities and more. Two fintech startups have moved into our fintech center. The CEO of Landsbanki, Lilja Einarsdóttir, opened the cluster formally and Helga Valfells, CEO of Crowberry Capital, introduced six fintech startups that pitched their stories.
The day after the opening, we held a conference on the mapping of fintech in Iceland, in collaboration with the Icelandic Financial Services Association. All the lectures were short and there was 19 of them, which was well received. It turns out that you can say as much in 5-10 minutes as you can in half an hour or an hour. I went to the podium between all of them and showed a picture of some kind of "old fintech", from clay tokens of Mesopotamia to the Rai stones of the island Yap.
